Vanuatu is a nation of around 200,000 people spread over a group of 83 islands and 450,000 square kilometres in the Pacific. Like Tuvalu, health infrastructure is limited. ICEE has assisted the development of Vanuatu’s eye care system through the training of 10 eye nurse practitioners and two optical workshop technicians in refraction over the last year.

In partnership with the World Diabetes Foundation, ICEE aims to design, implement and report on a locally relevant and sustainable model to increase the capacity of the Pacific Island countries of Samoa and Vanuatu to manage, monitor and improve diabetes care. The project aims to reduce eye, kidney and foot (amputation) complications which result from diabetes.
