ICEE is excited to announce that Sri Lanka’s future Vision Technicians have begun 12 month training courses at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. Once trained, the technicians will be an essential component of an ICEE eye care services model, delivering primary eye care, refraction services and affordable spectacles to their communities.
Future Vision Technician, R.G. Piumika Mihirani’s primary concern is her family and their small community. A former girl guide, Piumika continued to serve village by regularly volunteering to help at orphanages and with the elderly. Piumika says she applied to become a Vision Technician because, “eye care is very important for people living in rural areas – people in Sri Lanka are suffering…it is important to help [those] who are suffering.”
Looking forward to the day when she can make a difference, she says, “examining people who can’t see and give them chance to see this world – that will be the best.”
